The Darkness Single Announcement
The Darkness Drop New Single "I Hate Myself" with Bold Video, Announce Dreams On Toast Album and UK Tour
British rock icons The Darkness have released the video for their brand new single ‘I Hate Myself’, offering fans a powerful glimpse into their upcoming eighth studio album titled Dreams on Toast, out March 28th via Cooking Vinyl.
The video, directed by Simon Emmett, is an unedited one-take performance, featuring frontman Justin Hawkins in a completely new light. Well known for his incredible high-energy, flamboyant persona, Hawkins channels a world-weary, chain-smoking diva, sporting immaculate makeup, alongside his long, flowing hair. The self-reflective visual portrays the breakdown of a relationship and the self loathing that is central to the song’s lyrics.
“It’s the self-loathing the song talks about, brought to life visually,” Hawkins explains. “I love working with Simon Emmett—everything we’ve done together has been great, and this video has taken my favorite Darkness song ever to the next level. I can’t wait for everyone to see it; it means a lot to me, and I’m here for the conversation.”
The “I Hate Myself” video premiered last night on Hawkins’ Youtube channel, Justin Hawkins Rides Again, where he was joined by his brother and guitarist Dan Hawkins and fans for a live viewing party.
